Aby Ali, PhD.
Chemical Engineering and Process Advisor
Dr. Ali has worked in both Downstream and Upstream operations for over 26 years in the US and overseas. Prior to the Chevron merger, he began his tenured oil and gas career with Texaco Fuels and Lubricants Technology in Port Arthur, Texas where he performed product quality evaluations, plant process improvements, and provided technical assistance to customers in support of the Chemicals and Refining businesses for fourteen years. Following, Dr. Ali relocated to Montebello, CA where he carried out research in gasification technology and was assigned to combat erosion caused by pumped coke, coal slurry feedstocks, and corrosion issues due to high concentrations of acidic gas in the final syngas product.

In 2004, he transferred to Kuwait where he spearheaded the spills and leaks prevention plan and its implementation for a 330M/day asset in which he was also made responsible for pipeline repairs and pipeline replacement. He executed 1.3MM ft of partial and full pipeline replacement projects. In his role he also designed and submitted business planning and budgeting for the corrosion prevention program and managed the chemical treatment programs for all surface facilities.

Dr. Ali then moved to Angola to become Lead Corrosion Engineer where he reviewed and approved corrosion monitoring programs for their gas plant operations. He managed the design and construction phases while designing improvements in oxygen deaeration towers. His other projects included H2S removal efficiencies in gas, flow assurance for subsea pipeline, scale remediation in downhole tubing, as well as chemical program treatments for produced fluids. He also served as a corrosion SME for Angola’s major capital projects.

In 2011 he was assigned to Chevron’s San Joaquin Valley Business unit as Corrosion and Chemical Supervisor. In this role, he oversaw the quality of oil and gas specifications as well as produced water integrity for EPA specs. He championed the California Regional Water Quality Control requirements, as well as the corrosion control and chemical treatment programs across the entire SJV asset which included both heavy and light oil, steam and water flooding.

Prior to joining Chemical Intelligence Group, Dr. Ali’s most recent assignment was with Chevron in Houston, TX where he provided technical support to Chevron’s international business units in integrity management for onshore and subsea pipelines. In this role, he reviewed pipeline operations and managed design improvements for corrosion control and their respective inspection programs.

Aby earned his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Gahayr University. Continuing his academic excellence, he earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Florida. Dr. Ali’s strong analytical and technical skills, coupled with his commitment to operational excellence, process and personal safety, and project design has propelled his talents in benchmarking, project design, development, and execution.
